The Sociology of Trees
Welcome.
Midway through my life's journey, I found myself wanting to go into the woods. This blog is dedicated to the "sociology of trees," or how trees are manifested in our cultural imagination through literature, images or folklore. I will document trees of significance (such as the oldest living trees in the hills of California, the Council Oak Tree in Oklahoma, or trees that have a particular meaning to a local population) and want to create the largest index of images/stories of our leafy friends. If you know of an important tree, please contact me with its tree-history and significance (please include the location of the tree).

I took a print of this home from the museum in Vienna where it lives. Actually the print is just a detail, the right side, where the figures embrace. I never bothered to learn its name, and have just been calling it "The Hug."
